Challenges that work on the Assessment Competency:

Competency-based Assessment
Training Assessment

The teacher draws up the criteria and characteristics of the students’ assessment.

The assessment responds to questions on why, what, when, how we assess and how we report on the assessment.

Firstly, when talking about assessment we must identify its meaning, what functions an assessment should have.

Secondly, the contents of the assessment must be clear.

Thirdly, when the assessment should be done and which tools and means should be used.

Fourthly, the criteria for assessing the information obtained must be identified and, finally, the means and characteristics of the information that is going to be transmitted to students, their families, teaching staff, and the education authorities.

Competency-based Assessment Challenge

This Challenge aims to enable you to assess the ability acquired by students to apply their knowledge, skills and attitudes in solving complex problems or real-life situations, in a specific context. Through this Challenge, you will learn to assess the evidence of acquired competencies, in order to recognise the process your students have undertaken, take into consideration their progress, compare each one’s starting point and the progress made throughout the process.

This challenge comprises three skills:

1. HOW TO ASSESS THE COMPETENCIES

The objective of this skill is to help teachers identify and use the assessment criteria, indicators or standards to choose the appropriate tests and tools to assess competencies.

2. ANALYSIS FOR LEARNING

The aim of this skill is for teachers to be able to plan, in the learning sequences, initial activities that enable information to be collected on students’ levels of prior knowledge and that enables them to adapt the activities of their sequence to students’ needs and, later on, connect them with the new knowledge acquired.

3. ASSESSMENT STAGES

This skill is for teachers to learn to incorporate the three stages of training assessment into the design of the learning units, so that they can modify the sequences to personalise the learning for each student so the latter can develop the learning to learn competence.

Training Assessment Challenge

This challenge aims for you to master the collection of evidence of the different kinds of learning that students have acquired, through the appropriate use of different techniques and tools to provide an objective assessment and to make relevant decisions on reinforcing the teaching-learning processes depending on each individual’s progress.

This challenge comprises three skills:

1. TYPES OF SCHOOL PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

Use the different kinds of assessment precisely to measure students’ intended learning.
